Kangaroo is regarded as the strongest fine braiding leather available, approximately 4 times as strong as cow leather, which makes it an ideal leather for braiding. However, any show lead should have a core in the center for strength. A lead without a core will break.

All of our leads have a braided nylon core in the center for added strength, and to prevent stretching. This core is made from heavy test Power Pro braided nylon line, as we find it to be very strong, durable and easy to work with. I started using this when my fisherman co-worker gave me a bunch of short reels of his leftover sturgeon line and I have not used any other core since!

I am frequently asked why my leads are so smooth even when brand new compared to the lead they got elsewhere. The reason is that the lace is hand beveled. Beveling cuts the edge of each lace at an angle so that when the lace is braided it lays tightly and smoothly on top of the underlying lace so that it is smooth in your hand. No rough edges.

Once the lead is finished, it is hand rolled in a soft rubber roller. Rolling helps to relax the leather into its new form. A new unrolled lead is stiff and will hold a semi rigid bend however you form it. Rolling helps to soften and relax it so that it becomes supple much faster.

Once the lead is rolled, it is conditioned with Bick 4 conditioner for exotics and sealed with Aussie conditioner/sealer.

Once a lead is broken in it becomes like butter in your hand it is so soft and supple.
