I am frequently asked what size I recommend on leads.
My PERSONAL choice for leads on my dogs is anything under 50lbs I go with 1/8",anything over 50lbs (in cattle dogs) 3/16".
If you have a large breed, I suggest 1/4" for the comfort of your hand, and consider a loop finish or a larger snap.
Due to the variance in thickness of each hide, lace thickness can fluctuate slightly up or down, which means the thickness of your lead could vary up or down slightly. Your lead strength is not compromised by lace thickness, as the core is where your strength truly comes from.
